She wore what?
David Lynch’s remarkable, transcendent Blue Velvet has long stood the test of time, and now, thanks to the good folks at the Criterion Collection, the film will hopefully receive another look from old and new audiences alike.
Announced this afternoon, Blue Velvet, a movie about a college student (played by the ever-boyish Kyle MacLachlan) who discovers a severed ear in a field and decides to investigate who that ear belongs to, will be making its Criterion DVD and Blu Ray debut on May 28th, 2019.
A masterpiece of perverse humor and the demarcating between virginal innocence and sexual fulfillment, the film will be released in a two-disc set complete with new special features and deleted scenes (51 minutes worth, to be exact).
Nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director when it was released in 1986, Blue Velvet is often studied, like much of Lynch’s work, within an academic setting, and this new release will surely help massage those term paper impulses.
